Any Storage Device as a RAM
Computer Basics Equipment (Hardware & Software)
 CPU (Central Processing Unit):
Mother Board : Hard Disk Drive , Processor , RAM , ROM , Slots , Battery , etc.
SMPS Power Supply , CD/DVD ROM , Floppy Drive , Bus , etc.
Monitor , Key Board , Mouse , Printer , Scanner , etc.
 Operating System(OS).
Different Storage Devices:
In this storage capacity is limited & are faster .It has a volatile & temporary memory. Cost is more. Like: RAM , ROM.
In this storage capacity is larger & are slower. It is a nonvolatile & permanent memory. Cost is less. Like: Hard Disk Drive , Floppy Drive , CD/DVD ,Pen Drive, etc.
What is RAM ?
 RAM stand for Random Access Memory.
 It usually refers to "temporary" memory, which is inactive when the system is shut down, the memory is lost & when the system is turn on it is activated.
 It works as a buffer/cache between different components in the PC.
What is Operating System ?
An Operating System is a software program or set of programs that mediate access between physical devices (like keyboard, mouse, monitor, disk drive or network connection) & application programs (like word processor , World-Wide Web browser or electronic mail client).
Some popular Operating System's are:
Pen Drive as a RAM in Windows
 Connect your pen drive to your PC [1 to 4 GB]
 Right click on the My Computer and select the properties
 Go to advanced and then performance setting then advanced then
 Select pen drive and click on custom size “Check the value of space available”
 Enter the same in the Initial and the Max columns.
 Now restart your pc and enjoy your fast and super system
Virtual Memory
 The memory created on secondary storage devices and primary storage device to expand effectively a computer system's primary storage.
 By using this memory hard disk/pen drive to simulate additional random-access memory (RAM).
 It takes the load whenever RAM is nearly full.
 Mounting is the computing or attaching of an additional file system to the currently accessible file system of a computer.
 A mount point is a directory or folder (typically an empty one) in the currently accessible file system on which an additional file system is mounted (i.e., logically attached).
