Explosives that is potent in nature and bigger in size like the dynamite needs, another explosive gadget, which can trigger off the actual blast. More over, these devices should meet the safety standards and also should have enough power to set off the explosion. Usually all explosive compounds are sensitive but if they are more sensitive then there is always a chance of accidental explosions to happen. Even if, an explosive compound is safer with respect to its sensitivity then there is another possibility that it doesnâ„¢t get ignited intentionally.

The blasting cap comes into picture when both these issues arise. A blasting cap, a small detonating device, usually comes in three different categories namely, the non-electric caps, the electric caps and the fuse caps. It is safer to use, as the blasting is triggered off through a dynamo device that produces a small quantity of current through a wire, confining to the safety measures. A blasting cap also contains an easy-to-ignite explosive or the primary explosive, a high explosive compound, that can give the preliminary activation energy for a more stable blast. What makes the blasting cap more user friendly and dependable, is the fact that it also has a booster explosive. Usually the blasting cap is engaged to trigger off blasts in explosives like the sodium azide, lead azide, mercury fulminate and the tetryl. Blasting caps are usually misinterpreted because of their size and looks, causing accidents.
