This project and implimentation aims at building a DNS server which supports IPv6 name resolution. To achieve this, the server which has provision of complete support for both IPv4 and IPv6 in hosts and routers has been configured. The mechanism called the IPv6 over IPv4 is used(IPv6 over IPv4 is the method of encapsulation of IPv6 packets within IPv4 headers over IPv4 network). the latest version of bindconf tool is used for building the linux IPv6 DNS server with IPv6 name resolution . Shell scripts are used for implementing the above requirements by creating kernel with appropriate network parameters.
A Dual IP stack node is created by the project and implimentation so that complete support can be offered for both IPV4 and IPV6 in hosts and servers. a recursive copy of the kernel is created and in this, the necessary network properties required for the operation are configured using the shell scripts. IPv6 over IPv4 tunneling ie, the encapsulation of IPv6 packets within IPv4 headers to carry then an IPv4 network is utilised in this project and implimentation.
