FIBRE-REINFORCED FLY ASH SUB-BASES IN RURAL ROADS

SUB-BASE COURSES AND THEIR EVALUATION

SUB-BASE IS MADE OF BROKEN STONES,BOUND OR UNBOUND AGGREGATE

SUB-BASE COURSE PRIMARILY HAS THE SIMILAR FUNCTION AS OF THE BASE COURSE AND PROVIDED WITH INFERIOR MATERIALS THAN OF BASE COURSE

THE FUNDAMENTAL PURPOSE OF SUB “BASE IS TO PROVIDE A STRESS TRANSMITTING MEDIUM TO SPREAD THE SURFACE WHEEL LOADS IN SUCH A MANNER TO PREVENT SHEAR AND CONSOLIDATION DEFORMATIONS

FIBRE-REINFORCED FLYASH AS SUB-BASE

FLY ASH IS AN INDUSTRIAL WASTE MATERIAL FROM COAL PRODUCING INDUSTRIES

FLY ASH IS A LOW STRENGTH MATERIAL

STABILIZATION OF FLYASH BY ADDING FIBERS LIKE POLYPROPYLENE

MATERIALS USED

FLY ASH

FIBRE

SOIL

ADVANTAGES OF FIBRE-REINFORCED FLY ASH

FACTOR OF SAFETY OF REINFORCED MATERIAL IS INCREASED
STRENGTH OF FLY ASH INCREASED BY FIBRE REINFORCEMENT
REINFORCEMENT REDUCES THE VERTICAL DISPLACEMENT
SHEAR STRENGTH OF FLY ASH INCREASES DUE TO FIBRE REINFORCEMENT

RESULTS FROM EXPERIMENTS

THE UNCONFINED COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF FLY ASH IS INCREASED i.e. BRITTLE BEHAVIOR HAS BEEN CHANGED TO DUCTILE BEHAVIOR
THE CALIFORNIA BEARING RATIO IS INCREASED i.e. RESISTANCE AGAINST PENETRATION IS INCREASED
CONCLUSION

SHEAR STRENGTH OF FLY ASH INCREASES DUE TO FIBRE REINFORCEMENT

POLYPROPLENE FIBRE REINFORCEMENT REDUCES THE VERTICAL DISPLACEMENT

UCC STRENGTH,CBR VALUE OF FLY ASH IS INCREASED BY ADDING FIBRE
