The Future of Telephony
Internet telephony with VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is promising a future for the telephone networks, data, images, and voice traffic can be moved over the same connection. VoIP-based private telephone switching systems are being installed in many enterprises. The network users can reach maximum efficiency. Open source systems like Asterisk runs on Linux and can interoperate with almost all standards-based telephony equipment.

The Future of Cell Phones
Speed Is Just the Beginning:
Connected portable game consoles, full-featured TVs, and credit cards may be a common feature in the future cellphones. The networks maybe able to move data at several megabits per second. This will happen along with the support for WiMax, Wi-Fi, and, for TV, DVB-H or MediaFLO. better battery life, e-payment support, and graphics muscle will be featured in the future handsets. 8 megapixels and beyond can be expected in the future cameras.

Network Hopping: Enabling Seamless Internet Access
IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) is a future technology that allows any type of packet data--voice calls, video, music, HTMLto move seamlessly between IMS-enabled networks.

A study of future networks:
A delphi study revealed that WIFI would be dominant,

with cellular 3G still at least 4 years away.

Furthermore, 2.5G will remain in full use as it

is adequate for most B2E/B applications for

the mobile workforce, which will account for

75% of users. The most likely users of 3G

broadband are teenagers.
