The Aerospace industry is important to India’s strategic and economic interests and is characterized by high growth potential.
Karnataka provides a balanced ecosystem for manufacturing and services companies. While many large firms like Kingfisher operate from Bangalore, other new companies are establishing operations in the city’s outskirts, in key industrial belts surrounding Bangalore and in north Karnataka. The growth of other allied industries has also helped the aviation manufacturing industry .The State is also unique as it has a large density of aerospace institutions and has the potential of developing into an innovation and R&D hub.
This report deals about the Karnataka aerospace industry in two segments. First, it deals about the various investments happening in Karnataka and the various manufacturing and MRO sectors in the state. It goes on to talk about the various developments and research happening in HAL and the role it plays in developing Karnataka as an aerospace Hub. In the second segment it deals with the reasons causing the shift of the airport from HAL to BIAL and it analyses if it was indeed a right decision to have made. It provides an insight about how Karnataka has benefitted and is going to be benefitted by this new airport and thereby discussing the role, BIAL plays in developing the aerospace industry of Karnataka.
