Industrial microbiology is an important branch of microbiology dealing with those areas Of microbiology involving economic aspects, where valuable products are prepared from Cheaper and often-disposable substrates. There fore it has become possible for an industrial microbiology to complete with the industrial chemist. For Ex: Fermentative production cost of all antibiotics except one or Two, are appreciably less than the synthetic production cost of the same.
The Microorganisms useful to industrial microbiologists include viruses, Bacteria, actinomycetes, yeasts, moulds, and algae. Special skills are developed for Fermentation industries.
Alcohol is produced by the process of fermentation with the help of Microorganisms such as yeast and some type of bacteria. For many years, the only Source of sugars by yeast. The basic reaction involves the break down of glucose to Corbondioxide and ethanol. The glucose is converted to pyruvic acid and the pyruvic acid may be converted into many different end products such as ethanol,lacticacid.etc.
Glucose +Yeast2pyruvate 2ethonol+2carbondioxide
By using date syrup as a medium it is possible to produce alcohol with the help of S.cervesiae to obtain maximum percentage of alcohol. In ancient days date syrup alcohol was used to preserve brain of died Persons in liquid form.
This fermentation is simple and gives high yield. The Saccharomyces cervesiae used in this fermentation was obtained from IMTECH, Chandigarh, having ATCC 9763. Ethanol is used as biofuel. It is colourless, biodegradable, and low in toxicity and causes little environmental pollution if split. The biofuel is alternative to gasoline.
Brazil, US were responsible for 89% of the world’ s ethanol fuel production in 2008. In the coming 5 Years, India would be one of the countries in producing ethanol as biofuel to reduce Pollution.
Instead of using common crops, such as sugarcane, potato, manioc, corn sugarbeet, sorgum, sunflower, fruit, molasses, stover, grain, wheat, straw, cotton and many types of cellulose waste, date syrup is used to produce ethanol.
By encouraging the use of bioethanol, the rural economy would also receive a boost. From growing the necessary crops, bioethonol can be blended with conventional fuel Without need of engine modifications.
Bioethanol is produced using fermentation by using bioethonol in older engines can help reduce the amount of carbon monoxide produced by the vehicle thus improving air quality.
Production of ethanol was done by Saccharomyces cervisae ATTC .9763, with 21% sugar concentrated date syrup fermentation at 25’c for two days of incubation. The fermented media distilled to obtain alcohol. Then it was analyzed to get percentage of alcohol from dates. .
Ethanol was also produced from molasses for the comparison of percentageof alcohol and produced alcohol from dates.
