Reliance Industries Limited (BSE: 500325, LSE: RIGD) is India's largest privat sectorconglomerate company by market value, with an annual turnover of US$ 44.6 billion and profit of US$ 3.6 billion for the fiscal year ending in March 2010 making it one of the largest India's private sector companies, being ranked at 264th position in the Fortune Global 500 (2009) and at the 126th position in the Forbes Global 2000 list (2010).
Reliance was founded by the Indian industrialist Dhirubhai Ambani in 1966. Ambani has been a pioneer in introducing financial instruments like fully convertible debentures to the Indian stock markets. Ambani was one of the first entrepreneurs to draw retail investors to the stock markets. Critics allege that the rise of Reliance Industries to the top slot in terms of market capitalization is largely due to Dhirubhai's ability to manipulate the levers of a controlled economy to his advantage.
Though the company's oil-related operations form the core of its business, it has diversified its operations in recent years. After severe differences between the founder's two sons, Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani, the group was divided between them in 2006. In September 2008, Reliance Industries was the only Indian firm featured in the Forbes's list of "world's 100 most respected companies

MUMBAI: The board of LyondellBasell Industries has rejected an acquisition bid by Reliance Industries (RIL), sending the shares of India’s largest company on an upward spiral. Investors were worried that RIL may be paying too much for the Rotterdam-based chemicals maker. RIL’s offer to buy Lyondell for $14.5 billion was pitted against the foreign company’s creditors, including the New York-based private equity fund Apollo Management, which had backed an earlier reorganisation plan that would give them an equity stake in the chemicals maker, foreign news agency Bloomberg reported on Tuesday, quoting two unnamed sources. That plan is set to lead Lyondell out of bankruptcy. RIL stock closed 0.5% up at Rs 983.60 in a strong Mumbai market on Tuesday. The RIL spokesperson declined to comment on the development. A successful deal would have created the world’s largest petrochemical company ahead of BASF and Dow Chemical, with revenues of more than $80 billion and would have provided RIL access to better technology and refineries in Europe and the US. RIL had raised its offer by 21% from its initial bid, said a person close to the matter. RIL offered an undisclosed amount to buy Lyondell in November and has never made the value of its offer public. ET had reported in its edition dated March 2 that RIL may lose the bid. A person close to the matter said RIL values $8 billion of the most-senior Lyondell debt at about $2 billion less than where it’s trading.
PP process technology
Dow Global Technologies, a subsidiary of Dow Chemicals, was selected to provide its Unipol process technology for the PP facility. The PP process all gas-phase technology is based on a fluidised bed reactor system. The stable and predictable system is designed to have less movable equipment. The process includes purification, reaction, purging, vent recovery, additives and pelleting. The mechanical operations of the technology are simple and require less major equipment. The reactors are used to produce homopolymers and other copolymers. The process uses the same gas phase fluidised bed in the copolymer reaction state.Supply of compression and valve technologyDuring the second half of 2007, the oil and gas business of GE announced that is had been given a contract to supply compression technology for the refinery and PP plant at Jamnagar. GE supplied three reciprocating compressors, which were manufactured by GE's oil and gas facilities in Florence, Italy, along with two screw compressors.Metso Automation, a global engineering and technology company, headquartered in Helsinki, Fi The new refinery complex is being built adjacent to Reliance Industries Limited's (RIL) existing refinery and petrochemical complex. RIL already has PP capacity at the Jamnagar site, along with capacity at another site in Hazira, India."The Jamnagar complex, said to be the most advanced in the world, became operational in December 2008

Starbucks has a reputation for new product development and creativity. However, they remain vulnerable to the possibility that their innovation may falter over time. The organization has a strong presence in the United States of America with more than three quarters of their cafes located in the home market. It is often argued that they need to look for a portfolio of countries, in order to spread business risk. The organization is dependent on a main competitive advantage, the retail of coffee. This could make them slow to diversify into other sectors should the need arise.
Starbucks are very good at taking advantage of opportunities. In 2004 the company created a CD-burning service in their Santa Monica (California USA) cafe with Hewlett Packard, where customers create their own music CD. New products and services that can be retailed in their cafes, such as Fair Trade products. The company has the opportunity to expand its global operations. New markets for coffee such as India and the Pacific Rim nations are beginning to emerge. Co-branding with other manufacturers of food and drink, and brand franchising to manufacturers of other goods and services both have potential.
THREATSWho knows if the market for coffee will grow and stay in favor with customers, or whether another type of beverage or leisure activity will replace coffee in the future? Starbucks are exposed to rises in the cost of coffee and dairy products. Since its conception in Pine Place Park, Seattle in 1971, Starbucks' success has lead to the market entry of many competitors and copy cat brands that pose potential threats
