SmartWater is an anti-criminal system consists of a liquid containing a code which can be read under ultraviolet light , It is intended to be applied on valuable items, so that if they are stolen and later seized by police, their original owner can be determined or if its sprays a burglar with the (invisible smart water) fluid, which can't be washed off and lasts for months, to generate evidence which connects a suspect to a specific location .This Smart Water is developed by "Smartwater Technology Ltd" UK.SmartWater comes in three variants, "Index Solutions", "Indsol Tracer" and "SmartWater Instant", which use different techniques to embed unique code - allows "millions of chemical signatures" and is an identifier superior to genetic fingerprinting DNA

SmartWater is an invisible liquid that fluoresces green under ultra-violet (UV) light and contains a unique forensic fingerprint. With over two billion combinations, SmartWater links property to its owner and criminals to a crime scene.
SmartWater Forensic Property Coding carries a chemical ‘code’ which is registered to an address or location and can mark anything from lead roofing to a wedding ring. The liquid is impossible to remove and Police can analyse SmartWater to prove where any item of property came from and whether it is stolen.

Development of SmartWater was started in the mid-1990s by Phil Cleary, a retired police detective and later CEO of SmartWater Ltd, and his brother Mike Cleary, a chemist.

SmartWater’s Index Spray System is used to convict criminals by spraying them with an invisible liquid which marks their skin or clothing with a forensic code assigned to a particular location. SmartWater Index stays on skin for weeks and indefinitely on clothing and footwear and can be used to link a criminal to a particular crime, remaining detectable long after the crime has been committed.

• Homes - 1 million homes protect electrical goods, jewellery, and other valuables.
• Utilities - Electrical and water companies protect sub stations, cable and other metals.
• Insurance - Church roofs, vehicles and even musical instruments are all being marked.
• Railways - Electricity cable and earthing bonds at trackside are being marked.
• Haulage- SmartWater is protecting HGV drivers and their loads from hi-jack and theft.
• Finance - Cash in transit companies and banks are protecting staff and money.
• Equestrian - Saddles, horse boxes and other equipment is SmartWater protected.
• Retail - Shops and supermarkets protect stock, cigarettes kiosks and alcohol displays.
• Machinery - Farms, factories and plant hirers are marking vehicles and machinery.
• Fly-Tipping - Councils are marking domestic and commercial waste to deter fly-tippers.

SmartWater is regarded as the world’s most powerful security and criminal deterrent available. Utilised by law enforcement agencies around the world and now in Western Australia, it is regarded as "Best Practice" and "Value for Money" and has the ability to place the crime scene onto the criminal. Proven to be a more powerful criminal deterrent than Alarms, Grills, Fencing, Guards, Dyes and high visibility Police patrols it is now available to the Public, Community and Commercial organizations.

A powerful deterrent

SmartWater creates powerful forensic coding systems, supported by intelligence-led policing strategies, which deter individuals from stealing from you because they know they will be caught and convicted.
Criminals fear the power of forensic science and – regardless of whether their intentions are organised or opportunistic – they will think twice when they see SmartWater warning labels on your business premises and equipment. Why? Because the Police are looking for SmartWater and the criminals know it.
The deterrent power of SmartWater is maintained through our proactive approach; working with the police to undertake covert operations, providing them with forensic services free of charge and providing expert witnesses to convict criminals in the courts.

A smart solution to deter theft

SmartWater is a colourless liquid solution that is simply dabbed onto the uneven surfaces of your valuables.
It can be used to code all sorts of items such as jewellery, ornaments, electrical items and even your motor vehicle. Each bottle contains a unique chemical ‘code’ which is registered to you – conclusively proving ownership. It cannot be easily seen by the naked eye and is almost impossible to remove. The liquid glows under ultraviolet light making it easy for the Police to detect.
The Police use it in undercover operations to catch and convict criminals. Criminals know about SmartWater and fear its power to forensically link them with the scene of a crime.

The Mark of a Thief:

One of the more difficult tasks conducted by law enforcement is theft recovery and burglar identification. Traditional policing methods involve time-consuming investigations that rarely result in recovery of a missing item or identification and arrest of perpetrators. If a burglary is not reported immediately after the crime has occurred, the likelihood of successful outcome is doubtful. Law enforcement generally must rely on eyewitness accounts and trace evidence, such as fingerprints, hairs, and fibers to link a criminal to a crime scene. Many times, these resources are unavailable for various reasons and the investigation is compromised. In the past, alarm and camera systems have been used as a deterrent to theft and burglary. Although this technology has proved useful, criminals are aware of its presence and modify their behavior or appearance to avoid detection. As criminals are becoming smarter and increasingly finding ways around the current anti-theft technology, law enforcement and the public are finding new ways to thwart the ill intentions of criminals. Chemistry is providing a new asset to law enforcement in the form of a luminescent liquid solution.

Property Marking

item There are several levels of products in the SmartWater line for private and commercial use. The SmartWater tracer system is designed to track and protect consumer products and small items by painting the liquid product onto the base of items. After the liquid dries, it leaves a unique identifier visible to the police using special tools in an event of theft. It is incredibly difficult to remove the substance from items, and the solution on the base is not visible to the naked eye. In the event of a successful theft, even if the criminal knows that the item has been treated with SmartWater, they will not be able to remove the identifying substance. During an official investigation into a theft, if a product is found in a suspect&rsquos; possession that has the unique identifier, probable cause can be warranted and an arrest may be made.
