This article describes speech processing in cochlear implants(CI).Cochlear implant (CI) is a prosthetic device that allows partial restoration of hearing in profound hearing
impaired people..In this method,speech signal is analysed using Descete Wavelength Transform(DWT).Comparison with traditional filter bank analysis methods showed that the WT could be a suitable method for speech coding in CIs and information loss was minimal.Filter-bank approach uses a band of band-pass filters for estimating the signal spectral content in all the CI stimulation channels.Advantage over the traditional methods,WT has a very accurate resolution both in frequency and in temporal domain.WT uses the fact that the cochlea itself behaves as a parallel bank of WT-like filters.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
The Speech Material:
12 consonants taken from the Iowa consonant test and 10 bisillabic Italian words taken from the Bocca-Pellegrini test form the different sets of speech material that was used.
